Overview
Imiloa Collective is a social creative enterprise that collaborates with women artisans and marginalised communities around the world. Their mission is to preserve cultural craft traditions, celebrate creativity, and empower women through sustainable and community-driven design initiatives.
I designed the organisation’s visual identity and landing page, building a visual system grounded in empowerment, cultural symbolism, and storytelling. The result is a modern, minimalist identity expressed entirely in black and white, allowing the craft, people, and narratives to stand at the forefront.
Approach
Imiloa needed a visual identity that could do four things clearly:
Communicate empowerment
Respect global craft traditions without appropriating them
Feel contemporary and minimal
Work across different cultures, communities, and collaboration models
My task was to design a logo rooted in meaningful cultural symbolism, while keeping it simple and timeless.
Logo Concept & Cultural Inspiration
The Imiloa Collective logo needed to reflect female leadership, empowerment, cultural resilience, and creativity. Rather than inventing symbolism, I rooted the concept in authentic cultural motifs that honour the communities Imiloa uplift
North African Berber Symbols — “Power of the Goddess”
From Morocco’s Berber tradition, I drew inspiration from symbolic motifs tied to womanhood and spiritual strength:
The crescent moon with an upward arrow — symbolises the Power of the Goddess
The feminine glyph — signifies womanhood and identity
Together, these forms express strength, intuition, and the catalytic power of women.
Slavic Mokosh Symbol — Guardian of Women & Craft
From Slavic culture, I integrated references to the Mokosh Goddess — the protector of women, creativity, fertility, and handmade labour.
Historically, the symbol was embroidered onto fabric to bless and safeguard women’s work.
This connection mirrors Imiloa’s mission: honouring craft, preserving tradition, and empowering women’s creativity.
Logo explorations
The Imiloa Collective visual identity is intentionally minimal, keeping cultural symbolism and community stories at its core. Using a black-and-white palette, clean modern typography, modular graphic elements, and documentary-style photography, the system highlights women’s craft, creativity, and labour. It is versatile and scalable, working consistently across digital platforms, merchandise, and print, ensuring the brand remains recognisable while putting the organisation’s mission and stories front and centre.
The Imiloa Collective website translates the brand’s mission into a clean, storytelling-first experience. The homepage guides users from the hero section through community stories, projects, and ways to get involved. The black-and-white palette, clear typography, and generous white space keep the focus on women’s craft and empowerment. Every design decision, from layout to image hierarchy, reinforces the organisation’s values and allows the stories of artisans and communities to take centre stage.
